Jo has been working on the environmental PR for the re-opening of The Savoy hotel on 10.10.10. The Savoy will be the most environmentally responsible five-star hotel in London when it reopens after the largest restoration of a British hotel in history. Over £2.4m has been spent on environmental technologies.

Just before going on maternity leave, Jo worked with Alastair Fuad-Luke, author of the Eco-Design Handbook and lately Design Activism: Beautiful Strangeness for a Sustainable World on a series of Co-Design workshops that began in May 09.

Jo has recently started working with Sandbag, a non-profit making organisation set up to engage with the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS) to remove tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere via the buying of carbon permits. Described by Alok Jha in The Guardian as: “Probably the most creative anti-climate change website around”, Jo is working with the Sandbag team promoting the campaign to those who want to know more about how the EU carbon emissions trading scheme works, and how people can help to influence industry and bring down carbon emissions.

The evaluation of the EU-funded DEEDS (Design Education for Sustainability) project (www.deedsproject.org) is taking place in Jan/Feb 09. Jo is working with one of the European partners, the University of Brighton, as DEEDS moves into its next stage. The project is designed to bring together designers, practitioners, industry knowledge and academia across the spectrum of ‘what is sustainable design?’, embedding sustainability into design and design into sustainability

Jo has been working with Rainharvesting Systems Ltd (www.rainharvesting.co.uk), one of the largest rainwater harvesting businesses in the UK. Part of the Greenshop Group, Rainharvesting Systems works with the commercial and residential sectors, including new builds and retrofitting. Rainwater harvesting systems collect rainwater for reuse within buildings for garden use, flushing toilets, washing machines and utility rooms. They can cut household water usage by up to half. Rainharvesting Systems Ltd also recently supplied the rainwater harvesting system at the new King’s Cross St Pancras International terminal – an example of a large-scale system design.

Jo has been working with Alastair Sawday Publishing / Fragile Earth on the PR for the publication of a new title, Ban the Plastic Bag (publication date: 30th October, RRP £4.99 - www.fragile-earth.com). The book has seven authors including Rebecca Hosking who became well-known in 2007 as the person behind the Modbury, Devon, Ban the Plastic Bag campaign.

Unpackaged (www.beunpackaged.com) celebrated its first birthday at the beginning of November. Jo helped with publicity around its one-year celebrations and latest publicity includes The Guardian, 30.10.08 and a film on the Environment section of the Thomson Reuters’ website (http://www.reuters.com/news/video?videoId=93941)
