Jo has been assisting Alastair Fuad-Luke with the launch of a series of Co-Design workshops that began in May 2009 . The workshops take place at the Hub, King’s Cross, London, and were featured in Design Week (23.4.09). The workshops follow themes such as Eco-efficiency and eco-effectiveness; Passive and active energy reduction strategies; Mobility, eco-tourism and the eco-hotel; socio-eco entrepreneurs and emerging eco-economies; Eco-localisation and authentic consumption; Adaptability, resilience and autonomy; Happiness & well-being; Transparency & democracy, and Design Seeds for Co-Futuring. Alastair’s latest book Design Activism: Beautiful Strangeness for a Sustainable World has also recently been launched.

Code Consultancy

Jo assisted with PR for the Code Consultancy (www.codeconsultancy.co.uk ), based in Manchester, in the run-up to Ecobuild 2009. The Code Consultancy is a specialist in the technical aspects of the Code for Sustainable Homes and the seminar at Ecobuild aimed to help housing associations, construction firms, architects, surveyors and contractors understand the latest amends to the Code and some of the biggest challenges and quick wins when implementing the Code.

DEEDS

Jo worked on the international conference, 360° – Charting New Territory in Sustainable Design Education, which took place at 100% Design, London, and at the University of Brighton on 19-21 September 2008. The project, Design Education for Sustainability, is an EU-funded project that aims to integrate sustainability into mainstream design education and practice across Europe. Over 140 delegates took part over the three days from countries including Australia, the UK, Ireland, Israel, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Malta and Italy. Rainharvesting Systems Ltd

One of the first rainwater harvesting companies in the UK set up in 1994 www.rainharvesting.co.uk , Jo has been working with the company on PR and additional advertising strategy. The company is part of the Greenshop Group and is a founder member of the UK Rainwater Harvesting Association (UKRHA). Projects include commercial and residential builds and have included the rainwater harvesting system for the King’s Cross St Pancras International terminal. Recent projects have also included systems for Atkins; the University of Worcester; the T&G trade union building, Cardiff; Scotney Castle for the National Trust, Kent, and the Senedd, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff.

Sandbag

The Sandbag campaign aims to reduce the amount of carbon permits available in the carbon emissions trading scheme (European ETS). The Sandbag campaign is a member of The Guardian Environment Network and is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC)

The Savoy

Jo has been working on the environmental PR for the re-opening of The Savoy hotel on 10.10.10. The Savoy will be the most environmentally responsible five-star hotel in London when it reopens after the largest restoration of a British hotel in history.

Timbawood

Jo has recently started working with the south-west London based traditional joinery company, Timbawood. It has introduced a new product, Timbalite, a glass that has been gaining a reputation with UK conservation officers, planning officers, architects and homeowners. It is one of the only double-glazed glass designs that passes the new Part L1B and Part J (Scotland) building regulations that were introduced in October 2010. Timbawood is exhibiting at The Listed Property Show in February 2011 at Olympia, London.

Unpackaged

Unpackaged on Amwell Street, London, is the first of a new style of packaging-free grocery shop in north London. Unpackaged encourages customers to bring their own packaging as a way of encouraging environmental thinking and to do away with unnecessary packaging. Unpackaged has won various awards and was shortlisted in the Observer Ethical Living Awards 2008. www.beunpackaged.com
